Getting the Best Life Insurance Rates
How much you will wind up paying for your life insurance policy depends on the type of life insurance quotes you get as well as a large variety of factors that follow your initial request for a quote. You can be penalized in your premium for certain lifestyle choices while others will provide a large benefit to you when it comes to your life insurance policies. Getting the best life insurance rates may mean making some significant changes to the way you live, act, or even how you work, but the cost savings over a lifetime can be substantial to any budget. The least expensive life insurance policies are going to belong to those individuals and families who:
- Are married. If marriage is just not your thing, either through choice or circumstance, then you can expect to pay by having slightly higher life insurance premiums. Why? Because statistics show that married individuals live not only healthier lives but longer ones as well, meaning they are likely going to pay more in premiums than singles do before a claim is made.
- Are thin. If you struggle with your weight, you will have to pay a premium for life insurance as a result. It may not seem fair but the very reasons for your struggle are the reasons for the cost. Again, this is due to the increased likelihood that thin persons will live longer (and theoretically pay more in premiums as a result).
- Are smoke free. Like the thin, married people mentioned above, those who do not smoke statistically live longer and pay more premiums. In order to balance out this likelihood, if you smoke, you will be asked to pay higher premiums in order to be "fair" and to allow the life insurance company to continue to turn a profit. Some insurance companies may choose not to offer to extend policies to smokers due to the increased health risks.
- Are female. Again, the issue turns to one of longevity. Statistically females will live a good five to seven years longer than their male counterparts and this means an extra five years of paying premiums on their life insurance policies. Is it not fair then, that men should pay a little more during the duration of their shorter lives to make up for this statistical fact?
- Are homebodies. Many insurance companies will ask you outright if you engage in certain activities that may have an effect on decreasing your lifespan, such as traveling a lot, skydiving, bungee jumping, working on an oil rig, driving racecars, etc. If you engage in these types of activities they naturally will have a statistical impact the likelihood of your living a very long life for paying premiums and your policy will be adjusted accordingly
